  • How many sessions do I register for?
You can register for any number of sessions. Attending multiple sessions will certainly lead to improvement of skills.

  • Is the program affiliated with a soccer league?
Ubuntu program is not affiliated to any athletic league.

  • WHAT is the Ubuntu Program?
Our all volunteer year-round sports program focuses on soccer and basketball skills along with team dynamics and sportsmanship. While children learn to play the game, they also learn skills like teamwork, fair play, and peaceful solutions. At each session, children learn soccer and basketball skills appropriate for the group and stay true to the Ubuntu spirit "I am what I am because of what we all are". The program encourages children to put their new skills into practice on the playing field and in their daily lives.

  • WHO teaches?
Ubuntu is run by high school student athlete volunteer coaches. They are a group of individuals who have played sports at the competitive level and have experience working with children. Many of these coaches have played at state and even national level in their sport of expertise. They will continue to run sports camp throughout the year to raise funds and help aspiring athletes  locally and abroad.

  • WHERE and WHEN do the sessions take place?
We hold group and private sessions. Currently, we are scheduled to have sessions at Gomes Afterschool daycare, Forest Park, and Ardenwood Elementary until end of 2013 school year. We also have an 8 week session during summer as part of the Myndflex Summer Camp at Forest Park.
Private sessions are held on an as needed basis. Each session lasts for 2 hours. Every child will get to learn new skills and play with the team.

  • WHAT happens at a session?
Initially, the coaches determine skills set and desire for the sport for each player. Based on that, the team is divided into multiple groups for skills training. Towards the end of each session, a friendly game of scrimmage is played. The primary goal of the sessions is...to have fun!!

  • How does the Ubuntu program lead to change for the community?
Ubuntu Athletics is a nonprofit organization which strives to help those who are under-privileged to play sports. We strongly believe that sports, especially soccer, help unify the whole world. Through these sessions, we hope to sponsor under-privileged athletes in order to give them an opportunity to show their talents. The children who attend our sessions will get the satisfaction of knowing that they have played a part, however small, in helping an athlete. We hope that they will, one day, give back to the community.
